We’ve been helping with the UK launch of a smartphone that offers a solution to parents worried about their child’s access to social media and inappropriate online content – and again, we’ve delivered coverage beyond our client’s expectations.
Pinwheel is a child safe smartphone that’s been specially designed to be safe for children, with built-in, age-appropriate management tools and remote monitoring capabilities for parents. Children and teenagers can use it to make calls, send texts, share photos and use age-appropriate apps – but can’t access the Internet and / or social media sites.
What’s unique about Pinwheel is that it’s a connected phone that allows parents to customise settings to meet their child’s current needs … and as they grow and learn how to manage technology, features can be unlocked and access granted to nearly 1,200 specially vetted apps.
Earlier this year the New York Times described Pinwheel as “one of the best phones for kids” – and the phone’s enormous popularity saw Pinwheel named as one of the 5,000 fastest US growing companies.
In the end, news of Pinwheel’s launch was covered by over 60 media outlets – the crème de la crème was this interview in The Times. Understanding how news agencies work, a lot of effort was committed to engaging with PA Media – a process that saw the story picked up by the likes of Yahoo! News, AOL, The Independent, the Daily Mirror, Irish News and The Standard.
Another key target was local and regional newspapers – and with Newsquest Media Group picking up the story, news of Pinwheel’s launch appeared on dozens of news sites across the country, from Bournemouth to Scotland.
And with additional news from Pinwheel looming on the horizon, there’s more coverage to come.
