When we first heard about Naturbeads a year ago, we knew we had to work with them.
They’re a local, Bath-based company – as we are – but they’re tackling one of mankind’s biggest environmental problems – the use of harmful microplastics in everyday products.
After eight years of R&D, they’ve developed the world’s first cost effective, biodegradable and eco-friendly alternative, tackling microplastic pollution at its source.
Naturbeads, founded by University of Bath researchers, has developed biodegradable particles made from cellulose – found in plants and trees – to replace microplastics in a range of consumer and industrial products such as cosmetics and paints.
The cellulose particles provide the same function as microplastics – e.g., a smooth texture in cosmetics or a durable finish in paints – but don’t have the same toxic health and environmental impacts.
With new EU rules coming into effect next year restricting the use of microplastics in products such as shower gels and shampoos, Naturbeads are ahead of any competitors.
They’ve just opened a production plant in Puglia producing its particles for a couple of early-adopter customers – and plan to expand over the next few years.
To raise Naturbeads’ profile, we promptly secured an exclusive top-tier article – a feature in Forbes. Our next task was to use thje news of their €4.1m in EU funding to generate more media coverage..
After extensive pitching, titles running the story include Axios, EU Startups, Tech Funding News, UKTN, Startup Rise, Startup Networks, Tech Round, Startup Magazine, The Business Desk, Founders Today, Business Live, Bath Echo, N24 and Pulse 2.0.
And, with more exciting news imminent watch this space for more coverage.
